25th Annual conference of Indian Nuclear Society (INSAC – 2014) on theme “Technological Advances in Exploration, Mining and Manufacturing of Nuclear Materials” was held at Hyderabad during 15-17 December 2014. The conference was organized in association with Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), and supported by Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) and Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS).

Professor P. Rama Rao, Member, Atomic Energy Commission and Chairman, BRNS addressed the inaugural session as chief guest. Ms Agneta Rising, Director General, World Nuclear Association and Shri R.N. Jayaraj, former Chief Executive Nuclear Fuel Complex graced the function as Guests of Honour. Shri P.S. Parihar, Director, AMD and Chairman, Indian Nuclear Society (INS) Hyderabad branch gave an overview of the conference. Shri V. Venugopal, Vice-President, INS, gave welcome address. INS awards were given to 15 people in 6 categories by Prof. Rama Rao. Gursharan Singh, Secretary, INS and Dr. R. Mohanty, Additional Director (Op-II), AMD and Convener, INSAC-2014 also graced the dias.

A total of seven technical sessions were conducted during the conference. These sessions include 3 special, 6 keynote and 16 invited lectures delivered by eminent people under themes “Energy and Requirements”, “Geology and exploration techniques”, “Uranium mining and processing”, “Instrumentation for front end fuel cycle”, “Refining and manufacturing of nuclear materials”, and “Health, safety and social issues”. Twenty seven contributory papers were presented in the poster session of the conference. An exhibition was organized in the sidelines in which AMD along with other DAE units and industry participated.

Scientists from DAE units including AMD, various institutions and universities participated in the conference.
