RSA laboratory has facilities for preparation of radiation standards, Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) technique, radon measurements along with regular radiometric analysis facilities.

Preparation of Standards

The RSA laboratory at Hyderabad is responsible for the preparation of radiometric standards and calibration of borehole logging, shielded-probe logging and sample core assay systems.

Neutron Activation Analysis

Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) laboratory is located at AMD, HQ, Hyderabad. It is a non-destructive nuclear technique, employed to find the elemental concentrations of Na, K, Ca, Sc, Cr, Fe, Co, Zn, Ga, As, Br, Rb, Ag, Sb, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Tm, Ho, Yb, Lu, Hf, Ta, W, Au, Th and U. Measurements from percentage to ultra trace levels are possible by this technique. High purity germanium co-axial solid-state detector coupled to PC-based multichannel analyser is employed for spectrum analysis after irradiating the samples in DHRUVA reactor of BARC, Mumbai.


Alpha Spectrometry

Analysis of water samples to find the activity ratio U234/U238 using alpha spectrometry.


Radon Measurements

Radon measurement in water, soil and ambient air is being carried out in the RSA Laboratory. This laboratory has optimised the use of radon measurements in uranium exploration and environmental studies for generation of base line data.
