Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu graced the celebrations of Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) on 70th Glorious year of AMD, held in Hyderabad on 16.05.2019. Shri M.B.Verma, Director, AMD and all the officers and staff of AMD Headquarters and South Central Region rendered a warm welcome to the Hon’ble Vice President in AMD Complex, Hyderabad. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Vice President unveiled the ‘Cuddapah Monolith’ (Stromatolitic dolostone of Vempalle Formation of Cuddapah Supergroup which hosts India’s largest uranium deposit, Tummalapalle area, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh).
Shri M.B.Verma, Director, AMD made a presentation on the activities of the AMD. Hon’bleVice President also visited the exhibition on “Strategic Minerals” on this occasion.
In his thought provoking address to the officials of AMD, the Hon’ble Vice President appreciated the efforts of AMD in expanding the atomic mineral resource base of the country and pointed out that “nuclear electricity could significantly reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions” and has the potential to meet increasing energy demand in the country. He concluded that “We need to develop new and more efficient technologies to utilise our resources to the maximum”.
