The 74th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August, 2020 at AMD Headquarters, Seven Regional Centres and Two Sectional Offices with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm. This year the event was celebrated as per the guidelines by the Ministry of Home Affairs in view of the Covid -19 pandemic. Dr. D.K. Sinha, Director, AMD unfurled the National Flag at AMD Headquarters, Hyderabad which was followed by singing of the National Anthem by one and all. Subsequently the Director, AMD received the guard of honour from the AMD-Security.
Dr. D.K. Sinha in his address fondly remembered the supreme sacrifices of our freedom fighters for achieving the Independence and also saluted the brave soldiers who are keeping our territory safe. He thanked all the employees of AMD for effectively fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr. Sinha emphasised the role of Department of Atomic Energy in the nation building process and quoted about the spectacular success achieved by DAE in attaining criticality of KAPP – 3, Gujarat which is India’s first indigenously built 700 MWe PHWR.
Dr. Sinha then highlighted the Achievements of AMD during the last one year. He informed that since inception of AMD, over 3,25,000t uranium oxide and 1,200 Million Tonnes Beach Sand Heavy Mineral resources have been established. He informed the audience about the efforts by AMD for augmenting additional atomic mineral resources in the potential geological domains of the country and the unstinted support by the laboratories matching with the pace of exploration. He explained about the role of Administration, Accounts, Security and other supporting staff in achieving the goals of AMD. He concluded his address as follows:
“It is the hour to take a collective pledge to preserve the honour and dignity of our national flag and to rededicate ourselves to build a strong and self-reliant India. Being in the service of the nation, we need to be sincere, disciplined and responsible employees to make our country stronger in all aspects. Our dedication and contribution to the Indian Nuclear Programme will surely lead to the betterment of the quality of life of the large population of our country and this will be a befitting token of tribute to all the patriots who fought for our freedom”.
