Iconic Week Celebration for “zadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, AMD, NER, Shillong

 

As a part of DAE Iconic Week celebration for “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, AMD, NER Shillong conducted a public awareness programme on 25.08.2022 at Headquarter Shillong, Camp Jamiri and Kheel, Arunachal Pradesh also at Mushai, Anjaw District, Arunachal Pradesh.

Headquarter, NER, Shillong: A total of 160 students and teachers from 11 schools and 4 colleges have participated in the celebration. During the celebration, the visitors were welcomed by Dr Prakhar Kumar, Regional Director with a brief introduction to the activities of DAE and AMD especially in NE India along with the significance of AKAM celebration. Posters depicting the various activities of DAE/AMD were displayed and explained to the students. The model of nuclear reactor, samples of various rock types from North East India and the mechanical drilling rig were also explained to the students and teachers. Different types of minerals from different parts of the country shown to the visitors.

Short films showing the different activities of AMD and different technologies of DAE were screened for the visitors.

Students and teachers visited Physics, Chemistry and Petrology laboratories and interacted with AMD Scientists.

Lastly, a quiz competition was conducted based on exhibition and visit to laboratories. All students and teachers were provided welcome kit, Cap and pen with DAE logo and refreshments. A memento was also presented to all the participating Schools and Colleges.

Camp Jamiri and Ampuli, Arunachal Pradesh:In Camp Ampuli, Papum pare district, Public Awareness Programme was conducted in Govt. Secondary School, Toru and Govt. Secondary School, Sagalee. On this occasion, short lecture on peaceful uses of Atomic Energy and role of AMD was delivered by Shri Nipun Ghosh, SO/E. A quiz competition was also conducted among the students of class 9, 10, 11 and 12 standard. Welcome kit, cap and pen with DAE logo were distributed to the students and teachers. Mementos were also presented to the schools.

In Camp Jamiri, West Kameng district, Public Awareness Programme was conducted in Pinewood School, Rupa. On this occasion, Shri Marathi Ruthvik, SO/D delivered a lecture on various activities of AMD. Quiz and essay competitions were also conducted among the students of class 9 & 10 standard. Welcome kit, cap and pen with DAE logo were distributed to the students and teachers. Memento was also presented to the school.

Anjaw District, Arunachal Pradesh:A Public Outreach Programme was conducted in Mushai, the easternmost village of India (where the sun rays come first in India), Anjaw district as part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations. During this event, various items for societal benefits developed by DAE as spin-off technologies under AKRUTI programme were distributed to the local people of Mushai, Kibithu and Kaho villages. The programme was hosted by Shri Talo Jerang, DC, Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh and attended by Ms Sushma Taishete, Joint Secretary (R &D), DAE, Secretariat, Dr. D. K. Sinha, Director, AMD, Ms Smita S mule, Head AKRUTI Technology section, BARC, Dr. Prakhar Kumar, Regional Director, NER and other dignitaries through webex mode. The internet connection was provided by the Indian Army.
