
Iconic week Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration at AMD, South Central Region (SCR)
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was celebrated with fervor at South Central Region, AMD, Cherlapally, Hyderabad campus on 22.08.2022.
On this occasion, 100 students and 10 teachers (20 students and 2 teachers from each school) from 05 schools were invited to SCR Cherlapally Campus for participation in the programme viz. Pudami High school, MRR High school, J.P. High school Nagaram, Dr. KKR Gautam High school and St. Peters High school, Hyderabad. All the students and faculty members were given the welcome kit comprising Info-sheet on AMD, cap and pen with logo of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and a notepad.
The Chief Guest of the occasion was Smt. B. Sreebala, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Road Safety), Rachakonda Zone, Hyderabad and the programme was presided over by the Regional Director, Shri. S.K. Mathur. The programme started with lightning the lamp followed by the Saraswati Vandana. Shri M Rahman, SO/G welcomed the Chief Guest and briefed about the importance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, 2022.
On this momentous occasion, Shri. S.K. Mathur, Regional Director emphasized about the importance of freedom and how to make a self-reliant and stronger India. Shri S.K. Mathur, briefed the students and the faculty members about AMD’s activities and the role of Directorate in the nuclear power programme of the country with special emphasis on the works carried out by South Central Region.
In continuation of the programme, the Chief Guest Smt. B Sreebala addressed the gathering with zeal and enthusiasm expressing her happiness on being invited to the event by a prestigious scientific organization of the country. In her address, she emphasized that the freedom needs to be safeguarded by means of honesty, devotion and perseverance. She motivated the young budding students to fix a goal and achieving the same by becoming a worthy civilian. She also emphasized that the knowledge acquired needs to be disseminated down the society for uplifting the under privileged.
Later, a documentary film on activities of AMD as well as DAE were screened for the students, faculty members and officers and staff of SCR. Thereafter, the Chief Guest inaugurated the exhibition displaying the activities of AMD and DAE. The exhibition displayed the exploration activities of AMD, field & laboratory methodologies and atomic mineral resources of the country. Exhibits comprised various rock-mineral samples collected from different field areas along with geological field equipment.
The students were taken to the National Core Library and shown the borehole core repository and core scanning facility in operation at SCR. The students and faculty members were later introduced to the Petrology laboratory of SCR and thin sections of various rocks and minerals.
A quiz competition for 100 students was also conducted in online mode.
