Iconic Week Celebrations at AMD,Hqrs, Hyderabad

 

On the occasion of DAE Iconic Week celebrations under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav at AMD, Hyderabad various events were conducted in two (02) sessions (FN/AN) on 25th August 2022. The first session comprised visit to AMD premises by 150 students and faculty from 15 schools & colleges of Hyderabad. Students and faculty were presented with a welcome kit which included AMD info-sheet and cap embossed with logos of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and AMD. Students and faculty visited the museum of AMD where they have shown keen interest on various minerals/ rocks and fossils. It was enthralling experience for them to see the various radioactive minerals and rocks including fluorescent secondary uranium minerals. Subsequently, the students and faculty gathered in Homi J Bhabha auditorium where DAE and AMD films were screened. This was followed by a motivational address by the Director, AMD. Subsequently, three (03) lectures were delivered by scientists of AMD explaining the fundamentals of nuclear electricity generation, the exploration of minerals with special reference to uranium and role of nuclear energy in achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emission. A quiz competition was conducted for students. Pens were given to the winners as rewards. The session concluded with interactive session between students/ faculty and scientists of AMD on various aspects of nuclear energy.

In the post noon session, three (03) in-house publications by AMD viz. 1) Nuclear Energy : A Reliable Option for Clean and Green Energy ’ 2) Faunal Diversity around Gogi Uranium deposit, Karnataka in New India @75 3) Souvenir on Reminiscences of retired senior scientists of AMD were released by the Chief Guest of the session Rear Admiral (Retd.) Sanjay Chaubay, Chairman & Managing Director, ECIL in the august company of Shir R. Sreehari, Former Associate Director, AMD and Dr. D.K. Sinha, Director, AMD. The audience included Dr. N. Saibaba, Former, CE, NFC & RRF and several retired scientists, officers and staff of AMD. Shri R. Sreehari shared his experience of working for more than 38 years in the Directorate. Dr. Sinha speaking on the occasion highlighted the objectives behind the publication of the three (03) books and acknowledged the support of the AMD team in bringing out these books. The Chief Guest praised the efforts of AMD in dispelling the unfounded allegations related to uranium exploration and mining. The programme concluded with rendering of national anthem.
